Frequently Asked Questions
--------------------------
1. What is the Surf Spy Enterprise Server?
------------------------------------------
The Surf Spy Enterprise Server is suitable for companies or schools by offering the
possibility to store and view the logs from one central location. Surf Spy Personal,
installed on the machines being monitored, will send the logs to the Enterprise Server
using a network connection. (TCP/IP)
2. What is the purpose of the program?
--------------------------------------
The purpose of the program is to collect the logs for all computers monitored by the Surf Spy Personal software.
This makes it the ideal choice if you would like to monitor a large number of computers.
3. On what platforms does the Enterprise Server run?
----------------------------------------------------
The Enterprise Server is Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP compatible.
4. What is the difference
between Surf Spy Personal and Surf Spy Enterprise Server?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Surf Spy Personal is the application that is installed on the monitored machine.
It records every link (URL) and logs it to a file, email or the Enterprise Server.
Surf Spy Enterprise Server is a server installed at some central location.
Surf Spy Personal can be configured to send the logs to this central server.
5. How can I monitor other computers in a network?
--------------------------------------------------
If you'd like to monitor multiple computers in a network you have to install
Surf Spy Personal on each computer you'd like to monitor. Notice that you must purchase multiple
licenses in order to do that. If you'd like to have the log files sent to a
central location we recommend that you use Surf Spy Enterprise Server.
E.g. if your company
want to monitor 10 computers, then you install Surf Spy Personal at these machines
and set them to log to a server. This server is the Enterprise Server, which
you install at one central computer. All 10 computers will now send their logged
links (URLs) to the centralised server. The logs from all 10 computers can now easily be
viewed from the Enterprise Server configuration application.
6. How can I order the Enterprise Server?
-----------------------------------------
If you order five or more licenses of the Surf Spy Personal software, the Enterprise Server
is delivered for free. The Enterprise Server can handle as many clients as the number of
licenses you order. You will get a download link containing both products.
7. I get the error message "Could not find the DLL WS2_32.dll".
What should I do?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you get the error message "Could not find the DLL WS2_32.dll",
please download and install Microsoft's Winsock 2 update for Windows 95 at http://www.microsoft.com/Windows95/downloads/contents/WUAdminTools/S_WUNetworkingTools/W95Sockets2/Default.asp
8. I'm not sure what isn't working, is there a way I can find out?
------------------------------------------------------------------
If you are not sure what is causing the error, Enterprise Server can help you to find
out exactly what is going on. To do this, start the configuration application
(config.exe) and press the "Advanced Settings" button under the "System
Tab". In this dialog you can find two options called "Report with
messageboxes" and "Report with a log file". If an error occurs and
the first option is used, Enterprise Server will output error messages in message boxes.
Reporting to log file creates a file called "debug_log.txt" with all
error messages. Open this file and the error message might give you an idea
of what is going on. This file is by default created in "C:\Program Files\session server\system".
9. I think I've found
a bug, what should I do?
----------------------------------------------
If you've found a bug, please get in touch with us. Please include this in your
bugreport:
1. The version of the software. Look in the "About" tab in the Config application.
2. The Windows version.
3. And most important, a detailed description of the problem.
