Sureshot® releases "Sureshot PopUp Killer"™ for the Windows Operating System.

March 28, 2003: Sureshot Software today announced the latest release of "Sureshot PopUp Killer"™, an innovative pop-up blocking product dealing with advertisements such as browser pop-up windows, Messenger Service spam, hostile activeX controls, SaveNow adware pop-ups, etc.

"We have seen a huge increase of spyware and adware installed on the end-users' computers since the last release of Sureshot PopUp Killer. These spyware and adware applications are delivered to users bundled with popular peer-to-peer programs such as Kazaa, movie players such as DivX or installed by a new tactic called 'drive-by downloads'," states Roger Karlsson, project manager at Sureshot Software. Sureshot PopUp Killer™ works by monitoring all windows on your PC, keeping track of every pop-up window. The popup blocker has full support for both pop-ups and pop-under ads and will kill them even before they appear on the screen. Since the pop-ups are killed in such an early stage banners and other data is not downloaded at all, reducing the bandwidth utilization. An unique feature is that it will kill all pop ups and rotating banners ads from file sharing programs and the spyware/adware that are bundled with these peer-to-peer programs. Sureshot PopUp Killer supports Kazaa, Kazaa Lite, Morpheus, Grokster, iMesh, Xolox and Direct Connect.

The pop up killer will also stop the new breed of pop-ups called "Messenger Service spam". Messenger Service pop ups can spam you even when your web browser is closed. Users have reported in numerous incidents where Messenger Service pop-ups open with links to adult sites or displaying other material of pornographic nature. Sureshot PopUp Killer™ will also recognize and kill hostile activeX controls from companies known to develop spyware or adware. Gator, GAIN, C2, Comet Systems, Cydoor, Marketscore, Hotbar etc, are on the black list. The banner ads in ICQ pro 2003 and MSN Messenger 4.6-5.0 are also removed.
