Sureshot® releases freeware "Stop-the-Pop-Up"™ for the Windows Operating System.

March 12, 2003: Sureshot Software today announced the latest release of "Stop-the-Pop-Up"™, an innovative pop-up blocking software product dealing with advertisements such as browser pop-up windows, Messenger Service spam, hostile activeX controls, GAIN adware pop-ups, etc.

"Since the last release of Stop-the-Pop-Up we have seen a huge increase in spyware and adware installed on the end-users' computers. These applications are delivered to users bundled with popular peer-to-peer programs such as Kazaa or installed by a new tactic called 'drive-by downloads'. Stop-the-Pop-Up™ works by monitoring all windows on your PC, tracking every pop-up window. The popup stopper has full support for both pop-ups and pop-under ads and will kill them even before they appear on the screen. An unique feature is that it will kill all pop ups and rotating banners ads from file sharing programs and the spyware/adware that are bundled with these peer-to-peer programs. Stop-the-Pop-Up supports Kazaa, Kazaa Lite, Morpheus, Grokster, iMesh and Direct Connect.

The pop up killer will also stop the new breed of pop-ups called "Messenger Service spam". Messenger Service pop ups can spam you even when your web browser is closed. Stop-the-Pop-Up™ will also recognize and kill hostile activeX controls from companies known to develop spyware or adware. Gator, GAIN, C2, Comet Systems, Cydoor, Marketscore, Hotbar etc, are on the black list. The banner ads in ICQ pro 2003 and MSN Messenger 4.6-5.0 are also removed.
